| Death By Lightning! On the afternoon of the 13th
or 14th inst. between the hours of 6 and 7 o'clock, the home of
Humphrey HAYWARD of Salisbury, Westmorland Co., was struck with
lightning and melancholy to relate, one of his children, a
remarkable promising girl supposed by one informant to be of the
age of 9 or 10 was, whilst standing on the door, immediately
killed.
Some others of the family were knocked down by the violence
of the stroke and all were more or less injured. The elecric
fluid burst through the roof, passed down by the chimney, tore
out the breast work, and besides the above accidents, broke a
number of panes of glass, and shattered the whole house. 24 June

108, "Land Petitions," Humphrey Hayward and 10 others petition
for land in the Parish of Sussex, Kings Co., N.B., January 31, 1820. In
that petition, Humphrey states that he was born in New Brunswick, is 19
yrs old and asks 200 acres.
In the same year, Humphrey was
witness to the Marriage of Edward Friars and Elizabeth Sheck, dau. of
Christopher, 12/5/1820 at Sussex Parish.
Humphrey Married twice, but had no
children by his second wife, Hannah Ketchum. He lived chiefly at
Portage, Kings Co., but died while renting the Haslem farm. He was
buried at Sussex.
